Jackson has a new swimming pool maintenance, repair and construction franchise. 

Todd Turnbow, 44, is the owner of America’s Swimming Pool local franchise. The company has 105 locations across the country; Turnbow’s is based in Jackson but could serve several West Tennessee counties as it grows.

“We do maintenance weekly visits,” Turnbow said, “where we take care of the chemicals, vacuum, clean and whatever the pool needs.”

Melissa Crow is a Mobile, Alabama native who went into the dental hygiene field directly after high school. Beginning her dental career as a dental assistant, Melissa soon decided to continue her studies and became a dental hygienist. After seeing the success of her brother, Wayne Gable who owns ASP of Charleston, Melissa became curious about the business opportunity in Mobile. Now, she is the new owner-operator of America’s Swimming Pool Company, servicing Mobile and Baldwin counties in Alabama.

How did you learn about the brand?   
I learned about ASP from my brother, Wayne Gabel, who is an ASP franchisee in Charleston, South Carolina. He took over the business there after it had been in service for five years and was very successful. I had always wanted to be a business owner and ASP seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. Wayne is also currently one of my business partners along with my husband.

What was appealing to you about joining a franchise system? The most appealing aspect of joining a franchise system with ASP is the support and camaraderie between franchisees. ASP is a tightknit community and everyone genuinely has everyone else’s best interest in mind.
What makes your business different? One of the main differences between us and the competition is the professionalism of ASP. If people are going to have strangers in their backyards, they should have the right to feel safe and comfortable.

What challenges have you overcome to get where you are now? I’ve gone from servicing teeth to servicing pools and one of the greatest challenges was learning a new trade. There are a lot of things I had to learn about swimming pool maintenance so that I would be able to have a successful business. I put in the time and effort so that I can work towards perfecting my craft to better serve the community.

Do you see any parallels between your previous work and now? The main similarity between ASP and my former career in dental hygiene is dealing with people and customer satisfaction. It’s important to treat people with respect, be punctual, upfront and courteous.

What are your expansion or development plans? Right now I’m currently focused on building our two territories and we have plans to add a retail store in the next few years.

Do you have any other interesting hobbies or passions? I love to get outside and be active! I mostly play tennis quite a bit but I also golf and do some cycling.

Kevin Harnage is a 22-year-old entrepreneur who learned about ASP from his uncle, Chad Sutton, who converted his existing swimming pool company, Sweetwater Pools in Athens, GA to an America’s Swimming Pool Company in early 2012. Prior to becoming the operator of the ASP in Valdosta, Kevin attended college at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia and has a background in agriculture and farming. He is excited to bring a new, professional company to the Valdosta community and knew it would be a good fit because of his passion for working outside.

What was your career before franchising? 
In 2009, I went to ABAC, which is an agricultural college in Tifton, Georgia and had also worked on a few cotton and peanut farms in South Georgia. This past December, my uncle, Chad Sutton, approached me about this opportunity to start ASP in Valdosta. I I have always been a hands-on type of person and ASP gave me the opportunity to go in to business and to still be outside, which I loved.

How did you learn about the brand? 
I learned about the brand from my uncle who was in the process of converting his existing pool company to an America’s Swimming Pool Company in Athens, Georgia. He was looking to expand even further outside of Athens, and we didn’t have any pool companies like ASP in the Valdosta market, so we knew there was a demand for professional pool servicing.

What was appealing to you about joining a franchise system? 
What I enjoyed most about joining a franchise system was the education during ASP’s Pool School on the industry and the continued support by the corporate team. I never imagined myself in the pool business and ASP taught me everything there was to know, from servicing pools and repairing parts, to running the books and keeping track of the day-to-day operations.

What makes your business different? 
At the ASP in Valdosta, we want our customers to be 100% happy with our work and we want to be able to guarantee satisfaction. We want to create a strong reputation in the community and make sure that we are doing the best job, every time at every pool. With the professionalism from our uniforms, to the process that ASP has developed for the customer, we want to establish ourselves as the premiere pool company in the area.

What are your expansion or development plans? 
During the first year, we want to try to spread the word to the community as much as possible that we have opened and have a very experienced brand supporting us. I have done a lot of door-to-door marketing and want to raise awareness for all pool owners who may be doing maintenance themselves or are unhappy with the service they currently are receiving. We want to build a solid base of customers for weekly and monthly maintenance and would be really happy to build a strong, positive reputation.

Sean Rogers is a Stillwater, Oklahoma native and obtained a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration from Oklahoma State University, as well as a master’s degree in recreation administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. Sean began his career working for the Department of Defense on Johnston Atoll as a morale and recreation specialist. He then moved on to run the outdoor recreation programs for North Carolina State University and Northern Arizona University. , Sean then moved into the medical sales industry and eventually opened his own medical sales company in Denver. Sean recently became the manager for America’s Swimming Pool Company of Pensacola under the ownership of Ryan Eiland.

How did you learn about the brand?
I was familiar with ASP previously, but learned more information about the brand and the available position through my parents, whom are great friends with ASP owner Ryan Eiland’s in-laws. 

What is appealing to you about joining a franchise system?
The thing I find most beneficial about the franchise system from a managerial perspective, is the support and training that ASP offers. They really take great care of their franchisees and this has allowed us to be successful.

What makes your business different?
The greatest difference between ASP and the competition is the high level of service and professionalism. All of our employees are experts in the industry and receive the best training. They carry themselves with a professionalism that is unmatched in the industry.

Also, our location is open seven days a week so that we can better serve our customers. Both Ryan and I both come from a sales backgrounds and know how crucial it is to take care of our customers.

Do you have any hobbies or passions outside of business? 
I am an avid scuba diver! I also enjoy cycling, sailing, and almost all watersports.
